Micro-Needling is also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) or skin needling. This is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment where hundreds of micro-channels are created in the outer layers of the skin with multiple tiny needles. This stimulates the body’s need to heal itself, which forces new collagen to grow, reducing the appearance of fine lines, rough textures, acne scars and gives you softer, firmer skin.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MICRONEEDLING?
Microneedling treatments can be used to address a range of skin conditions which include:
- Improves fine lines and deeper wrinkles
- Reduces acne scars
- Softens stretch marks
- Evens skin tone
- Lightens hyperpigmentation and sun spots
- Reduces appearance of pores
- Firms and smooths skin texture
WHAT IS MICRO-NEEDLING WITH PRP?
The biggest advancement in Micro-Needling is the introduction of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) during the procedure. Platelet gel as it is often called, contains platelets and growth factors that are crucial to the body’s ability to heal wounds. Platelets stop bleeding and in the process release enzymes to attract immune cells to repair the injury.
Platelet-rich plasma is loaded with growth factors such as:
- Platelet-derived growth factor, which regulates cell division and growth.
- Keratinocyte growth factor, which covers the wound and starts forming new cells.
- Fibroblast growth factor, which is associated with the proliferation of cell formation.
- Epidermal growth factor, which aids in new cell survival.
- Vascular endothelial growth factor, which signals the system to restore oxygen to the tissues.
- Transforming growth factor beta, which plays a role in your immune system.
A small sample of your blood is placed into a two-stage centrifuge and spun to separate the red blood cells, white blood cells and plasma, leaving behind platelet rich plasma. During the Microneedling procedure your own PRP is deposited into the dermal layer through the tiny punctures in your skin. The growth factors are what expedite your body’s repair process and stimulates new collagen growth.
What should I expect after a microneedling treatment?
After the treatment, your skin will be pink for anywhere from 24-72 hours. This is temporary. For optimal results treatments should be a series of 3 to 5 procedures spaced 4-6 weeks. If you are someone that has deep wrinkles, advance photo aging, stretch marks or acne scars, more microneedling treatments may be recommended.
Before your microneedling procedure, your provider at Chic La Vie Medical Spa discusses your particular needs and desired outcome. Then, they recommend a customized microneedling treatment based on your unique goals.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Patients typically notice an immediate glow however visible improvement can take up to 4 -6 weeks and sometimes continue for several months.
